The African Journal of Community Based Inclusive Development (AfriCBID) is a multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed, and indexed publication dedicated to advancing research on Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) within Africa. AfriCBID aligns its content with international frameworks, including the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the "Leave No One Behind" principle.
Published quarterly in January, April, September, and December, The African Journal of Community Based Inclusive Development (AfriCBID)focuses on bridging the gap between academic theory and practical application, serving as a platform for researchers and practitioners in Africa to share knowledge, research, and best practices on creating sustainable, inclusive communities for persons with disabilities.
Aims
The African Journal of Community Based Inclusive Development (AfriCBID) aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice by publishing empirical, conceptual , theoretical research, case studies, and lessons learned /field reports on community based inclusive development (CBID) in Africa, and to promote the rights, empowerment, and inclusion of persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups from the ground up. The African Journal of Community Based Inclusive Development (AfriCBID) functions as a platform for evidence-based research, practical experiences, and advocacy to strengthen community-led initiatives in Africa.
Scope
The African Journal of Community Based Inclusive Development (AfriCBID) publishes research that enhance knowledge, improve policy, and document evidence-based practices that promote the inclusion of marginalized groups—particularly persons with disabilities—in all areas of community life across the African continent. · Evidence-Based Practice in CBID: The African Journal of Community Based Inclusive Development (AfriCBID) centers empirical studies that generate, evaluate, and apply research-based evidence to improve CBID program implementation, ensuring they are not just anecdotal but lead to sustainable, measurable outcomes.
· The Transition from Rehabilitation to Inclusion: The African Journal of Community Based Inclusive Development (AfriCBID) accepts studies that shift from medical-model rehabilitation (CBR) to a broader, social-model based Community-Based Inclusive Development (CBID), which aims at transforming existing systems to be more inclusive.
· Intersectionality and Inclusive Development: The African Journal of Community Based Inclusive Development (AfriCBID) accepts research that explore how disability interacts with factors like poverty, gender, age (children/youth), and ethnicity, with a specific focus on the "Leave No One Behind" principle of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
· Localisation and Community Ownership: The African Journal of Community Based Inclusive Development (AfriCBID) welcomes articles that investigate how to effectively localize the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) at the grassroots level, focusing on community mobilization, participation of Disabled People’s Organizations (DPOs), and reducing dependency.
· Inclusive Livelihoods and Economic Empowerment: The African Journal of Community Based Inclusive Development (AfriCBID) accepts studies that analyse strategies to break the poverty-disability cycle, including micro-finance, vocational training, and accessible employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
· Inclusive Education: The African Journal of Community Based Inclusive Development (AfriCBID) welcomes research on techniques for early identification, inclusive education, and the transition from school to work for children and youth with disabilities.
